About PAMS

Our society was founded by Dr. Feland Meadows and Dr. Elizabeth Caspari; who was a direct student of Dr. María Montessori, and was able to learn and train directly with María Montessori in Madras, India. During World War II, she worked with her for four years in Kodaikanal, in the Palani Hills, India.

After World War II, she opened the first Children's House in the United States and also offered the first Montessori Teacher Training course in the United States in 1953.

Dr. Feland Meadows was an internationally recognized authority in the field of Montessori Education, who dedicated his life to the training of more than 4,000 Montessori Guides in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, France, and Switzerland.

PAMS is one of the founders of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), which is recognized by the U.S.D.E. as the international standard-setting and accrediting body for Montessori teacher education. Dr. Meadows served as Chairman of the MACTE Commission on Accreditation for six years (1997-2003).

Pan American Montessori Society in Canada

With the intention to continue spreading the Montessori legacy among children, parents, and educators in Canada,  a partnership between Sibley Meadows and Silvia Núñez Gutiérrez was established in 2023. PAMS Canada  aims to holistically prepare the adult - at the mind, body and spiritual  level - to guide children in the journey of reaching their full potential, by making use of their whole repertoire, feeling proud of their unique identity and connecting with others in respectful ways to contribute to a peaceful world.
